No one can be in any doubt whatsoever that Sevco would like to sign Scott Allan from Hibernian.
Three bids – the last one apparently totalling £300,000 if life is discovered on another planet and the occupants play Sevco in a Champions League Final – kind-of give it away!
Indeed, one particularly talented exponent of the art of Sevconery suggested that it would be simply best all round if Hibs bowed to the inevitable.
As we all know, Allan could sign a pre-contract agreement with the shiny new club in January.
But Hibernian have refused to give in to the onslaught, and have simply said “No”.
Over and over again.
The Clumpany isn’t sure which part of “We won’t be selling Scott Allan to a Championship rival” Sevco don’t understand, but the message has been very clear indeed.
Maybe they just struggle to comprehend the crazy notion that they can’t always get what they want!
Numerous observers have commented that everyone has their price, and if Sevco had the wherewithal to do so, they could simply try making Hibs ‘an offer that they cannot refuse’.
Maybe Hibs would still dig their heels in.
But if Sevco really want ‘their’ man – who is a lifelong fan of both clubs to have played at Ibrox – they could at least seriously test Hibs’ resolve with a big scary bid.
It has been suggested that despite Dave King’s talk of ‘over investment’ and doing whatever it takes to win automatic promotion and then be ready to compete in the Premiership, Sevco don’t actually have the readies to seriously rattle Hibs’ cage.
Well maybe we are about to find out.
Because various media outlets are reporting that none other than Celtic are interested in Mr Allan.
We are told that talks are at an early stage, and no fee has been agreed. But,
“Celtic have made an offer of cash plus players” and
“BBC Scotland has learned that Allan is prepared to consider an offer from the Premiership champions.”
It’s certainly an interesting development!
The Clumpany is (to say the least) curious about how Ronny Deila might see Allan fitting into his team, but is happy to let Ronny get on with it!
Perhaps – as Keith Jackson mused on Twitter this morning – Celtic might loan Allan straight back to Hibs for the rest of the season, and then take it from there.
Then again, maybe Celtic are simply seeking ‘revenge’ after [*cough*] missing out on the signature of Danny Wilson?
This may all come to nothing. Not least because Scott Allan himself may ultimately refuse a possible move to Celtic. And if he does so, I say ‘good luck’ to him.
But it would be quite a spectacle to see Sevco ‘lose out’ on ‘their’ player. Especially to the club that their Chairman seems so utterly fixated on catching.
Dave King wouldn’t let that happen, would he?
Not when the co-investors’ hopes have been got up?
And not after they created that hilarious #HandItIn hashtag?
Perhaps it really is time to open the warchest, Dave?
